Considering a Career Change

I have entered a new stage of life.   I no longer have jelly covered fingers competing with mine for the keyboard.  I have only one child still living at home.  A teenage daughter. That is particularly useful when you want to become a writer.  Teenager's lives are full of great moments that you can steal for your books.  

I've been considering this career change for quite some time.  Around ten years, I think.  The time seems right.  As someone pointed out to me today, I have entered "Geezer-hood." Since that is the time when you finally begin to see things clearly, I may be able to pen a life-changing book -- if I can just find my glasses.

To advance my dreams, I have been reading other writer blogs.  I have found them inspiring.  I have determined that the single greatest talent for a writer, is a willingness to look at all the world with utter enjoyment.  One writer's blog entry explored ways to quit your job with a bang -- not literally -- but almost.   She suggested a horn.  

Another writer shared one of her more embarrassing moments.  These are things I have always tried to hide, but, perhaps, if one can look at these moments with the same utter joy in the experience, then it might be worthy of display. If not, I may just have to enlist my friend, Trina, who has the funniest embarrassing moments of anyone I know.  And even better - she is never afraid to laugh at them.

Whether or not I choose to make a career change, I have been changed.  Tomorrow, I will begin to see the world differently.  I will look at everything with a magnifying glass large enough to show me all the wonder, imperfection, humor and craziness that makes life worth living - and hopefully, worth writing about.
